“Ulamandala” (ulam + mandala), a foodlock series. Inspired by the virtual sharing of food with my siblings. During the three-month (March to April 2019) lockdown brought on by the global COVID-19 pandemic, I spent time each day photographing the meals on our family’s table, which I then shared with my siblings virtually with the caption “Let’s eat!”. These images were later transformed into mandalas—a visual meditation on the eternal cycle of life. Framed through this sacred geometry, the series reflects the journey of food from farm to table and back to the earth, evoking a sense of interconnectedness and ecological reverence. This cycle sustains not only the physical nourishment of the body but also the relational bonds among those who gather to eat.
